My Running Playlist

I haven’t really gone into details about my surgery on the blog. I don’t remember why.  Maybe not to gross people out? But really, I’m pretty open about it.  If you easily get grossed out, stop reading. Or skip the next paragraph.

What happened was, I had an ovarian tumor. It was benign (thank GOD), but enormous. It weighed 2.2 kilos. Its removal, combined with weeks of a restricted diet meant that when I got back on my feet people started to notice that I had dropped a few pounds. And I liked that.

So now that I’m fully recovered, I’ve decided that I need to maintain this figure. And since I have the tendency to be lazy as all hell and eat ice cream for dinner multiple days a week, I desperately had to come up with some sort of exercise plan.

Since I get bored easily, I decided to combine riding my bike, walking to work (a good 40 minutes at a brisk pace) and running. I hate running, but I hate walking nowhere more, so I’d rather get it over with faster.

However, Rihanna has made me hate running a little bit less. Every time I heard this song, it makes me want to go faster.

Some other songs on my running play list?
Dog Days are Over (warm up)
Barbara Streisand
Taboo
Party Rock Anthem
Dirty Bit

Do you have any more suggestions?

  1. hhhmmm…. let me see… Black eyed peas – don’t stop the party, David Guetta – When love takes over, LMFAO – Put that ass to work (non polite to sing it, but effective enough ha ha ha), Robbie Williams – Rock DJ, Pitbull – Triumph. That is a part of my motivational play list 🙂 Now, I don’t use to run or walk a lot, I prefer to play some sport game in Xbox with kinect… that kills me! ha ha ha

    • Thanks for the suggestions! I used to play some sort of dance game on my friend’s kinect that always kicked my ass…but was really fun at the same time!

  3. Staying in shape is so hard! Good music definitely helps. I love that Rihanna song too.

Here are a few that are on my list (not like I run a lot anymore, but when I do…)

Love You LIke a Love Song – Selena Gomez
Til The World Ends, I Wanna Go – Britney Spears (the Til the World Ends remix with Nicki Minaj is amazing)
You Make Me Feel – Cobra Starship
    In The Dark – Dev
Stereo Hearts – Gym Class Heroes

    • Thanks Kyle! And yes, so hard. I have been trying to limit my access to that Rihanna song so I don’t get sick of it too soon, because it seriously has miraculous affects on my motivation to run.

  4. A good running playlist is essential to running! I love that rhianna song too–little obsessed actually, how can you even think you’ll get tired of it ?!, (though the music video is a little rough.. it is on my playlist too! Here are a few more I have:
    Danza kuduro
    Titanium (love!)
Almost anything with Lady Gaga–awesome for running–personal fav-Alejandro
    Black-eyed peas (as already mentioned)
    Almost anything with David Guetta
I like it (Pitt bull and enrique iglesias)
Break your heart and Dynammite– Taio Cruz
    Mr. Saxobeat
    Everybody jump (Anti-funky)
    Let’s go dancing (Anti-funky)
Una noche mas, Es mentiroso, Muchacho malo–Olga Tanon
It’s a beautiful life– Ace of base
DJ got us fallin in love (Usher & Pitt bull)

I also have Elvis Crespo (shhhhhh!)

    • Lady Gaga is an important member of my running play list, although I had to get rid of Paparazzi recently. Too slow. I don’t have Alejandro…will have to download that stat. Thanks for the rest of the suggestions! I am already looking forward to my run this afternoon with all this new music.

  8. Ooooh I love this post! I’m so glad that your surgery went well and that now you have taken up running! It’s about the only consistency I’ve had in my life for the past decade and the thing I look forward to most in my week :). And I think maybe with the right playlist you will actually start enjoying it more!! Here’s my current top three picks:

Fuego Ft. El Potro Alvarez – “Una Vaina Loca”
The Wanted – Glad You Came
Michel Teló – Ai Se Eu Te Pego

(A nice little Spanish, English, Portuguese rotation.)

    • Karen, I am obsessed with Michel Teló! Love him. I will definitely check out the other two. Thanks for the suggestions! The more I run, the more I like it, which is the first time this has ever happened with me and running. Yay!

  9. I totally feel you on the music=motivation. It’s weird – a lot of things I’ll listen to at the gym, I’d never listen to in my car or at home. And vice versa. Right now my current playlist, along with the Rihanna song you mentioned, includes:

Pitbull (a couple of the recent hits – I normally can’t stand him but he’s so motivating during cardio!)

    Flo Rida “Good Feeling”

    Jay-Z & Kanye “Ni**as In Paris”

    Nicki minaj “Superbass”

Drake “Fancy”, “Headlines”, “Make me proud”

Btw, I like the way the blog looks! I usually read the posts on Reader so it was a pleasant surprise to see the new format!

    • Thanks Renee! I will definitely check those songs out. I know what you mean…I would never listen to Winsin y Yandel on a normal basis…but for running it’s a-ok! 🙂
