Not listening when you say Goodbye

I LOVED this song when it first came out, and I still do. I was almost offended when my older cousin told me it was about drug addiction. I had no idea. I thought it was about a relationship gone bad. I was quite a naïve pre-teen and I had no idea that crystal meth was a drug. Now, listening to the lyrics, it’s obvious that it is indeed about addiction. But I still love it, mostly the way the words fit together, and the beat. Oh, and I used to be really proud of the fact that I knew all the words and could sing along, although apparently I didn’t understand the message as a whole. It’s not the first or last time that I have failed to see the forest for the trees.
