>The last few days have been filled with two things: Food and Family. On Wednesday night we went to my Aunt’s house for Thanksgiving Round One with my Dad’s family. We ate a good amount of Thanksgiving food. On Thursday we went to my grandmother’s for Thanksgiving Round Two with my Mom’s family. We ate a VERY good amount of food.
Friday I worked, and actually ate very little. I simply wasn’t hungry. I ate some carrots and hummus, some crackers and one sample of Phish Food. For dinner my Dad bought some chicken and sesame noodle salad at the co-op and we ate that for dinner.
Today we celebrated my grandfather’s 80th birthday and my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. THERE WAS SO MUCH FOOD! First we started out with appetizers: crackers with cheese and kielbasa, artichoke and spinach dip, baked brie, chips and dip, cream cheese with hot pepper jelly on top, pumpkin bread and lemon bread. Then came dinner: ham, scalloped potatoes, peas and carrots, salad, pickles, rolls and apple sauce. For dessert there were three kinds of cookies, cheesecake and birthday cake.
I am so full right now that I don’t want to eat for at least three days.
I heard on NPR the other day that the average person eats 900,000 calories per year, and about half of those are consumed between Thanksgiving and New Years. I totally believe it.
I just realized I focused this post more on the food than family! It was really nice to see everyone, but I realized how tired it makes me having to interact with so many people at once. On Thursday I crashed on my grandma’s couch for about two hours in the middle of everything! Today I walked around like a zombie most of the afternoon, but I attribute most of that to the margarita my aunt gave me around 2pm. We also took a family portrait today which required lots of maneuvering and organizing and it took a lot out of me not to just scream at everyone to let the professional photographer we had hired run the show.
I’m so glad I have tomorrow off just to flojear and maybe go shoe shopping.
